Who we are
Welcome to your mobile source for the best hearing health and tinnitus relief through evidence-based, patient-centered care.
I’ll come to you! Whether that’s your home, office, or quiet place in between.
My goal is to provide you with the skills and tools to achieve the best communication. I focus on improved hearing by maximizing communication skills and amplification through hearing aids. I am trained in comprehensive tinnitus management and offer individualized care. And this is Appalachia, with incredible musicians and music lovers. I am here to help protect their assets (musicians’ ears) and preserve our hearing.
What we offer
Meet for your initial consult to address your needs. A consult typically entails:
FIRST - reviewing your case history and the challenges you are having.
SECOND - testing your hearing using mobile, calibrated, state-of-the-art clinical equipment in a quiet setting of your choice.
THIRD - reviewing your results, discussing how better communication can be achieved, and making recommendations for treatment.
THEN the FUN begins: Treatment for your hearing loss, including aural rehabilitation and hearing aids; building your listening skills while using your prescribed amplification.
Other considerations: Musician’s hearing conservation, hearing protection devices, assistive devices to help maximize your hearing.
Tinnitus is the perception of sound without an external source. It affects millions of people worldwide. Although it is typically a symptom of hearing loss, it occurs in various parts of the pathway from the ears to the brain and can involve the emotional center of the brain. Individual assessment is important as it takes time to determine the best way to approach it for each person.
But the GOOD NEWS is:
It can be treated and you can feel better and more in control of your tinnitus. Tinnitus treatment is available at Grandfather Hearing, and among counseling and exercises, can include hearing treatment or, if a candidate, the FDA-approved, innovative Lenire device, offering a unique bimodal neuromodulation approach to treating tinnitus. Along with specific training, together, we’ll get you to a better point, and with the knowledge about your tinnitus, reduce the negative effects it can have on your life. The individual time spent will lead you to being in control of improving your quality of life and bring your tinnitus to a benign state, on the back burner. Assessment often begins with case history and specific tinnitus questionnaires, hearing assessment, counseling and discussing the treatment details determined for you.
If you have hearing aids and they need to be serviced (cleaned, repaired, reprogrammed), schedule an initial appointment to assess what is needed. Sometimes, it can be a quick, simple cleaning of the devices to help you return to hearing better. Sometimes, it may require sending the devices in for repair, or reprogramming their settings based on your hearing loss or a change in your hearing.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: Measuring how your hearing aids are working on your ears is key to knowing if your prescription for your hearing loss type and shape is being met. Probe microphone measures or “real ear” measurements will be done to ensure you are doing your best with what you have.
